One of the first things I do when I visit a website is check the privacy policy—if it's nonsense, that's incredibly off-putting! But I designed this site with the principle of collecting as little data about users as possible.

This website respects your privacy. I believe in transparency and want you to understand how your data is handled when you visit smarason.is.

This website is designed to collect as little personal data as possible. It is built as a static site, which means it's essentially just HTML files delivered to you. Like any website, essential server logs (including IP addresses) are collected by the hosting provider for operational and security purposes, but beyond that, this site:

• —Does not set its own cookies—no first-party cookies (note: embedded third-party content may set cookies; see below)
• —Does not track your behavior—no tracking, no analytics
• —Uses geolocation data (country only) solely to select language preference
• —Does not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any such services
• —Does not require user accounts or registration—you're welcome to remain anonymous
• —Only stores theme preference (light/dark) in your browser's local storage

This is simply a website that displays information, like reading a book—except the book doesn't know you're reading it!

This website is hosted on Vercel. As part of standard web hosting, Vercel collects server logs that include visitor IP addresses and derives approximate location information from them. IP addresses are considered personal data under GDPR. These logs are used for operational and security purposes only. Please refer to Vercel's Privacy Policy for full details.

Content is managed through Sanity CMS, but no visitor data is shared with this service.

Embedded content: Some pages on this site embed content from third-party services. Specifically, podcast episode pages embed a Spotify player. When you visit a page with embedded content, your browser communicates directly with that service's servers—this happens automatically when the page loads, even if you don't interact with the player. The embedded service may set its own cookies and collect data about your visit. This is governed by Spotify's Privacy Policy, not this one.

External links: This website also contains links to external sites (such as LinkedIn and GitHub). Unlike embedded content, these only transfer data when you actively click through. I am not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites.
